Everything a journalist needs to write about NOOP: a quotable boilerplate, the facts that matter, the story behind the project, and our brand assets.
Last updated: 30 June 2026
The short version
- NOOP is a free, open-source companion app for WHOOP and Oura straps.
- It runs fully on your device. No accounts, no cloud, no tracking.
- It is built in the open by an independent team and funded by donations.
- We keep a low profile but we will answer questions by email.
1. About NOOP
NOOP is a free, open-source, fully on-device companion app for WHOOP and Oura straps, available on macOS, Android and iPhone. It reads your band over Bluetooth and does all of its analysis on your own device. There are no accounts and no servers. NOOP is funded entirely by donations and built in the open by an independent team. It is not affiliated with WHOOP or Oura.
That paragraph is fine to quote as-is. If you need a one-line version: NOOP is a free, open-source app that reads your WHOOP or Oura band and analyses it entirely on your own device.
2. Key facts
- Free forever.
- No account, no cloud, no tracking. Nothing leaves your device.
- Reads WHOOP 4.0 fully, WHOOP 5.0/MG live, and Oura 3/4/5 in beta, all over Bluetooth.
- Open source under the PolyForm Noncommercial licence.
- Powered by donations.
- Not affiliated with WHOOP or Oura.
- Not a medical device.
3. The story, and why it exists
NOOP started from a simple idea: you should own the health data your own band produces, and you should not have to rent access to it. So NOOP reads the band directly over Bluetooth and keeps everything on your device. No account to sign up for, no cloud to upload to, no profile being built in the background.
There is a second reason. A perfectly good band should not become e-waste because a subscription lapses or a newer model ships. NOOP keeps older straps useful and lets people get value from hardware they already own, without paying a monthly fee to read their own numbers.
It is a serious project, not a weekend hack. The code is open, the work happens in public, and there is an active community around it filing issues, testing builds and helping shape what comes next.
